Posted by QueenCate

Have Court, Will Travel is proud to announce that William (Bill) Griffin will be joining the royal court on Memorial Day Weekend, 2004 in Waterworks Park for the Des Moines Renaissance Faire and Coronation Pageant. Bill will be portraying the Archbishop of Canterbury and will be presiding over the Coronation Pageant.

Bill Griffin is a veteran of the Des Moines community theater scene; he has performed in comedies, musicals and children's theater and is currently rehearsing the title role in the Wizard of Oz at the DSM Playhouse. Bill is employed by the DSM Public School System and is also an avid hot air balloonist.

So, when you come upon his Grace, the Archbishop of Canterbury, bid him greetings and request his blessing...and if you're of a mind, see if he has a spare moment to hear your confession!

For DSM area high school students, a Shakespeare Monologue Contest is being organized. Monologues should be kept under two minutes in length. (cutting is permitted) Men's monologues will be judged on Saturday, May 29th at 3:30 P.M. Ladies monologues will be judged on Sunday, May 30th at 3:30 P.M. For DSM area middle school students, a Catapult Building Contest has been proposed. Middle School teams with a faculty leader are encouraged to build a working catapult that can launch a two pound rag ball. On Monday, May 31st at 3:30 P.M. the teams will be judged on the design of their catapult, as well as the distance the ball is launched. Contestants are encouraged to dress in either their Middle School colors or in school T-Shirts.

Contestants may attend the festival for free. Festival patrons are invited to view the contests and local guest judges will be awarding the prizes for First, Second and Third Place winners. Local media is being notified of these contests and is expected to provide news coverage.

Those interested in participating in these contests must
e-mail the festival producer, Greg Schmidt at: gregfest@netins.net
and must provide contestant names and which school they represent, by no later than May 1, 2004.
